A little curiosity.
A new departure.

Actual AlfaZulu World Routes screen in daylight mode, with an unplayed airport-code puzzle and interactive globe
World Routes in the app. Start with the free daily puzzle on the web.

An airport quiz where a wrong guess helps.

Daily Airportle gives you six approaches to identify one shared airport. Search for a city, country, or airport to make your first guess. You do not need to know every code before you start.

Use the distance and direction from your guess to narrow the search. The globe turns each approach into a route, so you can reason your way toward the answer instead of memorizing a list.

Finish today's puzzle, then share your result with a friend. For more airports, open World Routes in the AlfaZulu app. Zulu will be there for your next departure.

A practice code, not today's answer

This airport is in New Zealand.

AKL

Reveal the answer

AKL is Auckland Airport. The code is an IATA identifier.

Before you take off

What is an IATA airport code?

An IATA airport code is a three-letter identifier used in passenger travel, such as on tickets and baggage tags. IATA also assigns some location codes to cities and intermodal locations, so not every three-letter travel code means a single airport.

Are IATA and ICAO airport codes the same?

No. IATA location codes have three letters; ICAO location indicators have four and serve flight-operations purposes. AlfaZulu's airport guessing game presents three-letter codes. Its Pilot Radio games teach the separate ICAO spelling alphabet.

Can I play without downloading?

Yes. Today's Daily Airportle is playable on the web. Download AlfaZulu for World Routes, Pilot Radio, Spotting Deck, and your Aviation Passport.
