A little curiosity.
A new departure.

Pilot Alphabet and Radio Race are available in the AlfaZulu app.

Practice recall, not just recognition.

A spelling alphabet assigns a distinct word to each letter. It helps make letters clearer when people communicate by voice. The ICAO alphabet runs from Alfa to Zulu and is also widely known as the NATO phonetic alphabet.

Start untimed in AlfaZulu's Pilot Alphabet. Type or speak each call, learn the words you miss, and build accuracy before speed. Radio Race then asks you to recall all 26 calls against the clock.

Keep the distinction clear: saying a code using the spelling alphabet does not identify an airport. Mike Charlie Oscar spells MCO. Recognizing the airport behind MCO is a different skill, which you can practice in the airport games.

Before you take off

Is it Alfa or Alpha?

The official ICAO spelling is Alfa. Juliett also has two t's. The reference below uses the ICAO spellings.

Can I practice without a microphone?

Yes. Pilot Alphabet in the app supports typed answers as well as voice practice. You can also test yourself with the reference on this page.

Does this replace pilot training?

No. AlfaZulu is an aviation knowledge game, not an approved flight-training course or a source of operational instructions. Use current official materials and qualified instruction for real-world flying.
